چکیده

For a variety of density functional theories, we examined the ground-state properties of the water monomer (geometry, vibrational frequencies, dipole moment, polarizability) and dimer (geometry, vibrational frequencies, bond energy, and barrier heights for the transition states for the interchange of hydrogen atoms within the dimer). Thus, we considered LDA (SVWN), seven pure GGA methods (BLYP, BP86, BPW91, PWPW, mPWPW, PBEPBE, and XLYP), and eight hybrid GGA methods (BH&HLYP, B3LYP, B3P86, B3PW91, PW1PW, mPW1PW, PBE1PBE and X3LYP). We find that the best overall performance is given by X3LYP, a hybrid method using a modified GGA constructed from a linear combination of the Becke and Perdew GGAs. Comparing with the exact values, the errors in X3LYP for the water dimer are 0.05 kcal/mol (bond energy), 0.004 Å (bond distance), and 12 cm-1 (vibrational modes), and for the monomer, the errors are 0.002 Å (bond distance), 0.6° (bond angle), 14 cm-1 (vibrational modes), 0.005 D (dipole moment), and 0.008 Å3 (polarizability). These data were not used in determining the parameters or form of X3LYP, suggesting that X3LYP should be generally useful for predicting accurate properties for systems dominated by hydrogen bonding, electrostatics, and van der Waals (dispersion) interactions, such as ligand/protein complexes.

Computational study of the intramolecular proton transfer between 6-hydroxypicolinic acid tautomeric forms and intermolecular hydrogen bonding in their dimers

This paper is a density functional theory (DFT) calculation of intramolecular proton transfer (IPT) in 6-hydroxypicolinic acid (6HPA, 6-hydroxypyridine-2-carboxylic acid) tautomeric forms. The transition state for the enol-to-keto transition is reported in the gas phase and in four different solvents. The planar and non-planar dimer forms of 6HPA keto and enol, respectively, were also studied i...

Study of the glycine amide and water dimer using density functional theory

The hydrogen bonding of complexes formed between glycine amide and water molecule has been investigated using density functional theory at 6-311++g(d,p) basis set. Seven stable stationary points, corresponding to three pairs of mirrorimage conformers and one symmetry conformer are observed. Thirteen reasonable geometries on the potential energy hypersurface of glycine amide with water system ha...

Theoretical Study of 1,4-Dioxane in Aqueous Solution and Its Experimental Interaction with Nano-CuSO4

The electronic structure, Non-Linear Optical (NLO) properties and Natural Bonding Orbital (NBO) analysis of 1,4-dioxane were investigated using the theoretical study of Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculations at the B3LYP/6-311G (d,p) level of theory. The optimized structure is nonlinear as indicated from the dihedral angles.  Natural bonding orbital analysis has been analyzed in terms...

Theoretical Study of stereoelectronic effects of Boron Nitride Nanotubes in interaction with 7-hydroxy phenothiyazine 3-one sulphure dye by electron density functional theory

In this study interaction of phenothiazine sulfur dye with (5, 5) armchair open-end boron nitride nanotubes (BNNTs) in interaction (with a length of 7 Å) was investigated. The impacts of the estereoelectronic effect associated with donor-acceptor electron delocalizations, dipole-dipole interactions and total steric exchange energies on the structural and electronic properties and reactivity of ...
